EDUCATOR TECHNOLOGY ASSESSMENT PROGRAM--PHASE II*

In 2003-2004, Port Neches-Groves ISD implemented Phase I of its Educator Technology Assessment Program in an effort for its educators to document attainment of the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) technology standards. Phase I was for all full-time instructional staff and consisted of assessments in Word, PowerPoint, Internet and E-mail, and the Windows Operating System. In keeping with the goals of the Port Neches-Groves ISD district technology plan (Objective 1.2, Strategy 1.2.2); Phase II of this assessment program will be implemented during the 2004-2005 school year.

Phase II is for full-time classroom teachers only and encompasses the following components:

  • Skyward Gradebook Verification
  • Web Page
  • Technology in the Teacher Presentation
  • Technology and Student Learning

Assessment #1 requires that a teacher be proficient in the basic use Skyward Gradebook and be current in all submissions.

Assessment #2 requires that the teacher have a teacher web page that meets certain basic criteria. Teachers who already have a teacher web page they have created can submit their web page for review. Web page classes will be made available at the end of the summer and throughout the 2004-2005 school year.

Your web page should contain the following information:
o Teacher name
o Teacher information (optional)
o Information about your class(es)
o Schedule (including conference time) and/or Calendar
o Class Procedures and/or Rules
o E-mail link to the teacher
o Minimum of 2 hyperlinks
o Minimum of 1 image (clip art, jpeg, digital photo, etc.)
o Save your web page file with your last name as follows: bduhon_webpage.
**Naming web pages should follow these rules:
(1) use lowercase letters
(2) no blank spaces are used in filenames

The following disclaimer must appear on your web page:

Neither the Port Neches-Groves Independent School District nor any employee of the school district assumes responsibility for the appropriateness of any website or link beyond the original link that has been provided on this page.

Remember, in order to post a child’s name and/or picture on our district website, a parent permission form must be signed and on file.

Assessment #3 requires that the teacher submit two technology products he/she uses in instruction. For example, a teacher can submit teacher-created PowerPoint presentations used to introduce units, chapters, etc.

Assessment #4 focuses on student-created technology products. A lesson plan template will be provided for the teacher to document student technology use. The teacher will be given a choice for documenting student technology products. The teacher can either submit 2 student products of the lesson or may have his/her principal/evaluator observe the lesson to document student use of technology in the classroom. The lesson plan template can be found at: http://www.pngisd.org/etcap/lesson_plan_template.doc.

Successful completion of Phase I is required BEFORE Phase II can be submitted for review. Upon successful completion of Phase II, the teacher will have his/her choice of one of the following items (or its equivalent) for his/her exclusive use while employed by PNGISD:

  • digital camera
  • Palm m130 organizer with color display
  • 256 MG Jump Drive and optical mouse
  • HP Officejet all-in-one printer and scanner

2. If needed, take technology classes.
3. If you would like a copy of the Phase II Technology Assessment to work on during the summer, e-mail Brenda Duhon at bduhon@pngisd.org with the Subject Line: Send Me Phase II Assessment.
4. When school starts, verify that you can log on to the network with your username. If unable to do so, contact Brenda Duhon at 962-4268 x. 19 or by e-mail at bduhon@pngisd.org.
5. When school starts, begin submitting your assessment(s).

*Participation in the Educator Technology Assessment Program may be dependent upon funding for the 2004-2005 school year, which has not been determined at this time. Any limitations will be announced as soon as possible after the beginning of the 2004-2005 school year. In the event that a “maximum” number of awards will be set for this assessment, don’t postpone getting started.
