    NEW substitute teacher/aide applications will be accepted for the second semester of the 2018-19 school year from November 26, 2018 through January 6, 2019. All applications must be submitted during this time – NO EXCEPTIONS.

    MANDATORY substitute in-service for new substitute applicants will be held at the West Groves Education Center, 5840 W. Jefferson, Groves on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Please park in the side parking lot off of Gulf Street and enter through the side entrance.
     
    Please print, complete and bring the following items to the orientation:
     
    • Substitute Forms Pack with forms COMPLETED
    • Valid Driver’s License & Social Security Card
    • Sub. Teacher/Aide/Nurse applicants must provide appropriate transcripts. Certified teachers must also provide documentation of their certification. Uploading this information with your on-line application is the preferred method. If you do not have the capability to scan/upload this documentation, please provide a copy of the required information that the district can place in your file. COPIES WILL NOT BE MADE AT ORIENTATION.

    Fingerprinting/Background Check is the final step in the application process. The fingerprint process will be discussed during the in-service meeting.  Based on the results of the background check, you will be notified via email if your name can then be considered for placement on the substitute list.

    NO ONE WILL BE PLACED ON THE APPROVED SUBSTITUTE LIST UNTIL ALL PAPERWORK IS RECEIVED.

    General Information
     
    It is the desire of the Port Neches-Groves Independent School District to have substitute teachers who hold Texas Teaching Certificates.  Non-certified substitute teachers are used when certified substitutes are unavailable.  In pursuit of this aim, three classifications of substitute teachers are maintained. 
    • Class I substitute is one who holds a four-year degree and certified to teach in the public schools of Texas.
    • Class II substitute is one who has a four-year degree but is not certified.
    • Class III substitute is one who has neither the four-year degree nor certificate. Associate degrees are classified as Class III.
    *Class I & II must provide appropriate documentation of degree/certification. Class III must provide high school transcript.

    1.  Class I and II substitute teachers are paid $80.00 per day. If a Class I or II substitute completes ten (10) consecutive days of teaching for the same teacher, and remains on the same assignment, then this substitute goes on a schedule of $85.00 per day.

    **A Class I substitute teacher, who completes twenty (20) consecutive days of teaching for the same teacher and continues on the same assignment, is eligible to receive $140 per day.

     **Class II substitute teacher, who completes twenty (20) consecutive days of teaching for the same teacher and continues on the same assignment, is eligible to receive $130 per day


    2.  Class III substitutes are paid $65.00 per day. If a Class III substitute completes ten (10) consecutive days of      teaching for the same teacher and remains on the same assignment, then this substitute is paid $70.00 per day.

    3.  A Registered Nurse who substitutes for a campus nurse will be paid $
    80.00 per day. If a substitute                   Registered Nurse completes ten (10) consecutive days of substituting for the same nurse and remains on the same assignment, then this substitute is paid $85.00 per day

     4.  A Licensed Vocational Nurse who substitutes for a campus nurse will be paid $65.00 per day. If the LVN           substitute completes ten (10) or more consecutive days of substituting for the same nurse and remains on the same assignment, then this substitute is paid $70.00 per day.    

     5.  Substitutes for clerks, secretaries and teacher aides will be paid $65.00 per dayIf a substitute aide, clerk or secretary completes ten (10) consecutive days of substituting on the same assignment, then this substitute is paid $70.00 per day.

     6.   Substitute custodians will be paid $8.00 hour.
           Substitute food service workers will be paid $8.00 hour.
           Substitute bus drivers will be paid the rate of $12.00 hour .
           Substitute bus aides will be paid the rate of $8.00 per hour.

    For payroll purposes a half-day will be defined as any portion of the period from 7:45 a.m. through lunch period or from the end of the lunch period through the end of the school day. A substitute will receive full pay for a major portion of a school day.
